CAKE Chicago and future events

A week or two back, I went to CAKE, a free alternative comics show down in Chicago. I must have met with at least a dozen different artists, and I bought/traded quite a few comics as well. As an indie cartoonist myself, it felt good to be surrounded by comics that were more alternative or indie like my own. It’s nice to have an opportunity to expose Drannik & Lizzep to a larger crowd, and the artists at CAKE were no exception. Seeing the amount of talent down there from across the country makes me even more psyched for the con I’m going to.

Speaking of which, I will be in Minneapolis from August 30th to September 1st for Meta Con, which I am so looking forward to. I’m hoping to sell a lot of Drannik & Lizzep books there, and I’m hoping to meet some people out there, so that’s always a plus. Between now and then, though, I will be at a couple of different art-related functions, including Drink & Draw later this week in Milwaukee, as well as teaching a cartooning class this coming Saturday. Hopefully more will come between now and then.

Students Choose Comics at UW-Parkside

Figure I should mention this briefly. I’ve got a short Drannik & Lizzep comic in this show at UW-Parkside. The show goes until April 20th, so if you want to know more about it, click on the link below.

I will also be posting new stuff on here soon.

I’ve been confirmed for Meta Con 2013 in Minneapolis

A quick update, but a relatively important one: I’ve been confirmed for the Artist Alley at Meta Con 2013. I’m so excited for it, and this’ll be the first time I try to sell Drannik & Lizzep on the road. More details will follow as it gets closer to the weekend of the convention, but here is a link to the website to get an idea on what this con is.

Steampunk and Robots show at Artworks

Yesterday, I went to the Steampunk and Robots opening reception at Artworks in Kenosha. Considering I had a piece in the show, I took a couple of pictures of the event. They are below.

Update on Cartooning Class

Just wanted to inform you all that the class I’m teaching on how to make cartoon characters is coming up very soon on the 11th. If you want to sign up for it, click here. There is not a whole lot of time left. In the meantime for some other content, I’ve uploaded a new image to the Miscellaneous section of the Portfolio tab, plus these pictures I took last Friday at an art show at the Racine Arts Council.

Monster 2012 Recap

I attended the Monster 2012 show at Artworks in Kenosha. I have two things up there, and it is going on until the 31st of this month, so if you want to see my stuff, now’s a good time to go see them. Anyway, in addition to the art show, there was a puppet show going on in the basement, much of the material comedy, and Artworks had their traditional “big custom-made Halloween cake”. Not only that, but I sold two copies of my “Drannik & Lizzep” comic book that I have on display there, so I also made an eight dollar profit. Here are a couple of photos from the event.

I will be at Monster 2012 at Artworks of Kenosha this Saturday. If you are in the Kenosha area, stop on by. It starts at 6pm, and the gallery is located at 5002 7th Avenue.

I’ve also added a new image to the Illustrations section of the Portfolio tab above, so go ahead and check it out.

Kenosha Festival of Cartooning Recap

Last weekend, I went to the Kenosha Festival of Cartooning. Unlike last year, most of the presentations were at the Kenosha Public Museum, but this year was extra special, as one of my favorite cartoonists made an appearance: Stephan Pastis of “Pearls Before Swine” fame. I gave him a copy of “Drannik & Lizzep” while I was there. Whether he’d be into the comic or not is another story. Anyway, here are a couple of photos from different events that took place:

Bridge Celebration Artwalk Recap

Bridge Celebration Drawing

Last Saturday was the first Artwalk I had been some sort of part of since I took a trip to Los Angeles back in July. Unlike that Artwalk, however, this one didn’t turn into a riot.

Sign I used promoting my stuff

In all seriousness, though, I had a good time at the event, despite only selling one comic and not staying the whole time due to weather. It was very cool and windy because it was right next to the just-completed Wisconsin Ave. bridge, and later on it started to rain. Despite this, I made my presence known, and I got a few photos from the event as well.
