I’ve made some more updates to the portfolio. Namely, a few sample comic pages from Drannik and Lizzep #2. Speaking of which, I’ve added some new info about Drannik and Lizzep #2 under the books tab.
An Art-filled Weekend
I went to several different art events over the last couple of days, and since it would be pointless to post about them all separately, I decided to put them all in one megapost.
Making of a comic page and some small updates
I’ve updated the “Books” and “Comic Pages” sections with some new material, along with posting this “Making of”.
I wanted to post a step-by-step process on how I make a comic page. Now, I’ve done similar step-by-step processes in the past, but I wanted to go more in-depth this time.
Some updates to the website
Things have been silent here for the past two weeks or so, but I have made some updates to this website in that time. I’ve got it arranged now so that the portfolio link at the top is a drop down menu, and each drop down selection leads to an individual section (e.g. “Illustrations” leads to a page just for illustrations, etc.).
And speaking of the portfolio, I’ve added some new stuff to it, so feel free to check it out.
Event Recap: Art Milwaukee Art Jamboree
Art Milwaukee recently had one of their monthly Art Jamboree’s, this time at Flux Design on Vienna Avenue, just south of Capitol Drive. I actually had a table near the entrance where I showcased and sold some stuff. Because I took so many photos and because there is a lot to talk about, I’m going to have to put the rest of this post below the fold.
Event Recap: Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities Grand Opening
“The Rita”, as it has been dubbed, had its grand opening on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 at the University of Wisconsin – Parkside. “The Rita” is a massive expansion of the old Communication Arts Building, and from what I saw tonight it’s a massive improvement.
There were a lot of different activities and events going on throughout the event, including several different art exhibitions going on in the different galleries, as well as airbrush painting and live performances.
There was also printmaking demonstrations, and what you see above is sort-of an example of that. What we did was we had this pan filled with oil, then dunked and swirled in some color, and finally put a piece of paper in and wash it in water. Considering what little it took to make, I really like how it turned out. I might use it in some form as a background for future comics or something (especially since it looks so psychadelic). My friend and I worked with an airbrush as well, but I let him keep that considering he did quite a bit on that one.
All in all, “The Rita” is quite the nice expansion to UW-Parkside’s creative departments. I only wish it was there when I went, and I also wish I had my camera to take photos. Well, maybe I’ll put some up before the week is out, as I’m likely going to visit again.
Site Update: If you’ve seen the header bar recently, you’ll have noticed it’s less cluttered and more organized. I’ve placed the animations and books under a drop-down under portfolio to clear some space, plus they fit under portfolio anyway. I’m hoping to do some more with that when the time comes.
Edit: Here are a few pictures I took a few days after the event. Hope you enjoy.
Featured Artist on artmilwaukee.com, plus new portfolio stuff
If you are arriving from artmilwaukee.com, or any related website, welcome. If you aren’t and have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m one of several featured artists on Art Milwaukee’s website for the month of January. Also, I will be at the next Art Jamboree at Flux Design on February 3rd, so if you want to see my art along with others’ in person, that would be the perfect opportunity to check it out.
I’ve also put up new art in my portfolio as well.
Animations page added, plus some news
I’ve been thinking of adding this for a while: there is now a page featuring my animation stuff alongside the rest of my portfolio. The link for it is at the top of the page.
Also, there will be an Art Jamboree in Milwaukee on February 3rd, and I’ll be there. More info can be found here.
Now with a Random Header Image
Because this site is more than just the character of Drannik, I decided to update the header image and have it randomly display other characters/art styles. Right now, there are only three (the old Drannik one, plus two new ones), but I’m planning on adding more soon. If you want to check them out, you can either click on a link to a different section, or just press the refresh button.
Happy Holidays from tkcartoonist.info
Hope everyone’s holiday is going well. I’ve put up some new images under the portfolio section. Not only that, but I’m also including some videos I made in this post. Check them out.
