Free Comic Book Day this Saturday

It’s been a while since I posted anything, so I just wanted you all to know that I will be at Rockhead’s Comics and Games in Kenosha on Saturday giving away a comic that I made for Free Comic Book Day. Stop on by if you want a copy.

New news and such

Some news because I haven’t posted in quite some time:

-The grant has gone through for “The Journal of Mischa”. We won’t hear anything about it til later, though, so keep your eyes open for more later.

-Issue 5 of Drannik & Lizzep is in the works, with the first story for it almost completed. The cover is done by Deidre “Pit-Face” Crouch, whose work you can see here.

-Big news: I’m on the waitlist for CAKE 2014. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll make it in, but they must have liked my stuff enough to put me on the waitlist for the show. We’ll see what happens in the next few months. Reminder: CAKE 2014 will be in Chicago on May 31st and June 1st. It is an alternative comics show, so even if I don’t get in, please go to it and support my fellow indie comic creators.

Progress on “The Journal of Mischa”

“The Journal of Mischa”, a comic I am making in conjunction with NAMI of Racine, is coming along swimmingly. The cover has been finished for a while and is on display on this very website. The pages have been sketched out and I am working on inking them as I type this. The grant process has begun, and I’m hoping it goes through when the time comes to send it. Below are a few screen captures of what has been done so far.

Meta Con 2013 Recap

Last weekend I went to Meta Con in Minneapolis to sell some comics, as well as some commissions. While I didn’t make any commission sales, I did sell quite a few books. The con itself was interesting, as it focused more on anime and gaming than it did on comic stuff. There were quite a few people dressed up as cartoon characters wandering the halls. Below are just a few pictures from the con floor itself.

Meta Con in One Week, Plus Other News

Drannik & Lizzep go Digital

A week from today, I will be going to Meta Con in Minneapolis to sell copies of Drannik & Lizzep, as well as drawings I’ll make on the spot. I will be posting pictures of the event afterwards.

In other news, I am currently working on a new project: a spinoff of Drannik & Lizzep starring Mischa. It is a story involving mental illness, and I’m getting the National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, in Racine involved. In other words, this comic might have more than just local exposure. I’m also going to be talking to a reporter from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel soon about this story, as well as all my other comic related doings. I will post more about these things as they happen.

Updates

Some brief updates: I’ve added some more stuff to the portfolio section of the site, including the image above. Yes, I am planning on making Drannik & Lizzep Ts to support the comic book, but it might be a while before any are printed off.

In the meantime, Meta Con is coming up in a month, so if you are in the Minneapolis area and want to meet me/purchase some comics, that would be the perfect time to do so.

Finally, Drannik & Lizzep has returned to the Kindle store. If you want to purchase a copy for your ebook collection, click the link in the previous sentence.

CAKE Chicago and future events

A week or two back, I went to CAKE, a free alternative comics show down in Chicago. I must have met with at least a dozen different artists, and I bought/traded quite a few comics as well. As an indie cartoonist myself, it felt good to be surrounded by comics that were more alternative or indie like my own. It’s nice to have an opportunity to expose Drannik & Lizzep to a larger crowd, and the artists at CAKE were no exception. Seeing the amount of talent down there from across the country makes me even more psyched for the con I’m going to.

Speaking of which, I will be in Minneapolis from August 30th to September 1st for Meta Con, which I am so looking forward to. I’m hoping to sell a lot of Drannik & Lizzep books there, and I’m hoping to meet some people out there, so that’s always a plus. Between now and then, though, I will be at a couple of different art-related functions, including Drink & Draw later this week in Milwaukee, as well as teaching a cartooning class this coming Saturday. Hopefully more will come between now and then.

Free Comic Book Day coming up, plus some site news

Just wanted to let people know that Free Comic Book Day is coming up on Saturday, May 4th, so be sure to stop by the comic shops that day, pick up some comic freebies, and support independent creators like myself by buying our stuff while you’re there.

Also, I’ve made a few revisions to the site in the last couple of weeks. For example, I finally changed the color of the navigation bar; I got rid of Share & Follow, opting to instead put any links to follow me on my About page; and the big one: I’ve uploaded a plugin so that this site is now more mobile friendly. So if you’re using a smartphone, tell me what you think needs to be improved or what works on the mobile site.

Students Choose Comics at UW-Parkside

Figure I should mention this briefly. I’ve got a short Drannik & Lizzep comic in this show at UW-Parkside. The show goes until April 20th, so if you want to know more about it, click on the link below.

I will also be posting new stuff on here soon.

I’ve been confirmed for Meta Con 2013 in Minneapolis

A quick update, but a relatively important one: I’ve been confirmed for the Artist Alley at Meta Con 2013. I’m so excited for it, and this’ll be the first time I try to sell Drannik & Lizzep on the road. More details will follow as it gets closer to the weekend of the convention, but here is a link to the website to get an idea on what this con is.
