Free Comic Book Day coming up, plus some site news

Just wanted to let people know that Free Comic Book Day is coming up on Saturday, May 4th, so be sure to stop by the comic shops that day, pick up some comic freebies, and support independent creators like myself by buying our stuff while you’re there.

Also, I’ve made a few revisions to the site in the last couple of weeks. For example, I finally changed the color of the navigation bar; I got rid of Share & Follow, opting to instead put any links to follow me on my About page; and the big one: I’ve uploaded a plugin so that this site is now more mobile friendly. So if you’re using a smartphone, tell me what you think needs to be improved or what works on the mobile site.

I’ve been confirmed for Meta Con 2013 in Minneapolis

A quick update, but a relatively important one: I’ve been confirmed for the Artist Alley at Meta Con 2013. I’m so excited for it, and this’ll be the first time I try to sell Drannik & Lizzep on the road. More details will follow as it gets closer to the weekend of the convention, but here is a link to the website to get an idea on what this con is.

Yesterday, I went to the Steampunk and Robots opening reception at Artworks in Kenosha. Considering I had a piece in the show, I took a couple of pictures of the event. They are below.

Cartooning How-to Class Recap

On January 11th, I taught a class over at Bucketworks in Milwaukee. It was a class on how to create cartoon characters. It was pretty much an easy-going class, considering I’m not like a professor or anything. I went over some of the basics of creating a cartoon character, as well as ways to create atmosphere for the character. Here are some of the drawings I made for the class:

Although only two people showed up, they seemed to have a pretty good time. I’m hoping next time will be even better. I might host another class within a month or so, so keep an eye on this page for news about that.

Just wanted to inform you all that the class I’m teaching on how to make cartoon characters is coming up very soon on the 11th. If you want to sign up for it, click here. Event Recap: Inspired Art Auction

Last Friday, I went to the Inspired Art auction at the Wherehouse on Water Street in Milwaukee. The event was sponsored by AmericaSCORES Milwaukee, a local non-profit group. Here are just a few pictures from the event:

Where my piece was before it was eventually sold. This picture was taken afterward.

Finally, this was the bid sheet for my work. The winning bid was $170. This was taken before the winning bid was written down.

Monster 2012 Recap

I attended the Monster 2012 show at Artworks in Kenosha. I have two things up there, and it is going on until the 31st of this month, so if you want to see my stuff, now’s a good time to go see them. Anyway, in addition to the art show, there was a puppet show going on in the basement, much of the material comedy, and Artworks had their traditional “big custom-made Halloween cake”. Not only that, but I sold two copies of my “Drannik & Lizzep” comic book that I have on display there, so I also made an eight dollar profit. Here are a couple of photos from the event.
